18.06.2025

Raul Andino-Pavlovsky è il prossimo ospite del ciclo di seminari 2025 del Dipartimento di Medicina Molecolare. Data da segnare in calendario: 18 giugno 2025.

Ma chi è Raul Andino? Rispondiamo brevemente in lingua: he is a virologist and professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of California, San Francisco. With over 30 years of experience in virology, his work focuses on RNA virus biology, including molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, and evolutionary biology. His research explores viral replication mechanisms, vaccine development, and antiviral systemsKey achievements include developing licensed novel oral polio vaccines (nOPV2) and advancing new candidates for type 1 and type 3 poliovirus, which may aid eradication efforts. In addition, Prof. Andino's lab has pioneered experimental and computational platforms to study RNA virus evolution, linking genetic diversity to fitness and adaptation. His exceptional trajectory has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the M.W. Beijerinck Virology Prize to internationally renowned researcher, Humboldt Research Award, John J. Holland Award, and he is a Fellow, American Academy of Microbiology (elected). His work has received extensive coverage in both academic and popular outlets (e.g., Science, Nature, New York Times, The Atlantic).
